Q. Do I need to rent a car during my vacation to Turks and Caicos?

We are a little biased in this regard, however, most people who have visited the islands will agree that there is so much more you can see and do with a vehicle of your own. In addition, taxi cabs are expensive and their service is inconsistent, there is no public transportation, and the illegal jitneys are uninsured and unsafe.

Q. What are the requirements for renting a vehicle?

You will need a major credit card and a valid driver’s license. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discovery, and American Express.

Q. How old or young to I have to be to rent a car in Turks and Caicos?

The Turks and Caicos Islands have the most beautiful beaches in the world, some of the finest restaurants anywhere, and the most quirky insurance regulations imaginable. What this means is that you need to be 25 or older and 70 or younger to rent a vehicle in the country. However, we have purchased a special policy that allows us to offer vehicles to those aged 23 and 24, and drivers over 70. Unfortunately, to offer this option for our customers within these ages, there is a required fee of $11.95 per day.

Q. Are there any other charges besides the rental rate?

We pride ourselves on not “nickel and diming” our customers. The government applies a 10% stamp duty to all rental contracts. Grace Bay Car Rentals offers free liability insurance, free child seats, free airport pick-up, free airport drop-off, free resort drop-off, free resort return, free customized maps, and free concierge services such as restaurant and charter reservations. The only payable fees we have are the optional “leave the Island Hassle Free” loss damage waiver of $9.95 per day and a $4.95 per day additional driver fee.

Q. What does the FREE liability insurance cover?

We carry the required coverage for the Turks and Caicos Islands, which includes $500 000 USD protection for third party personal injury and $100 000 USD protection for property damage.

Q. What does the “Leave the Island Hassel Free LDW” cover?

The option Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) of $9.95 per day covers you for all damages to your rental vehicle with the exception of glass and tires. It even covers you if your vehicle is stolen during your possession. There is a $350 deductable applied to any claim. See our rental contract for more details, but the ‘fine’ print states you cannot be driving intoxicated, illegally, or dangerously and expect to be covered by the LDW.
Q. Are the Turks and Caicos Islands safe?

The islands are safe but if you go to a secluded beach or snorkeling with your car take the precaution of leaving the car unlocked with the front windows rolled down enough that even the dumbest of petty thieves can see the car is available for them to check out without breaking the glass. Obviously do not leave any valuables in the car or trunk.
